FAQ
General
Helight Sleep is the only technology to offer a patented protocol which guarantees an optimal result helping falling asleep and enhancing sleep quality: precise narrow bandwidth 630nm wavelength devoid of blue component, optimal intensity to affect sleep (below vigilance threshold), diffusion engineered to create the best possible environment for relaxation, 14 minutes of light exposure based on the average sleep onset time and an additional 14 minutes of fade out resulting in a smooth and uninterrupted transition.
It is the same patented technology. Only the appearance is different. The Helight Kidzzz, is lighter and made of unpainted plastic, therefore non-toxic for young children. In addition, it can be positioned on the side illuminating the wall.
No; Helight Sleep has a 28-minute cycle and stays on for 14 minutes, then fades out for another 14 minutes. A patented protocol, unique to Helight.
No, close your eyes, the 630nm wavelength penetrates the eyelid to give the signal to the photosensitive cells of the retina that it is time to relax and sleep. This being said, it’s not a problem to look at the light.
No, the eyelid must be bare to let the light at 630nm pass through.
Certainly; If you are still not sleep after the first cycle, you can restart it. If you wake up during the night, you can also reactivate it. This will allow you to get back to your night's sleep more quickly.
Yes, absolutely. There are no contraindications. Helight Sleep can help making falling asleep with a sleep apnea machine easier.
Yes, the beneficial effects will be felt by every person in the room. Nevertheless, several couples have opted for 2 devices; It is in fact more practical to have a device close to you if you want to turn it back on at night.
Yes, Helight Sleep emits pure red light, which will lose its effectiveness in the presence of another light source.
Helight Sleep device is safe for infants; however, the biological rhythm is established around the age of 6 months. The device will have no effect before this age.
Depending on the sleeping environment, mainly the size of the room and the color of the walls, you can modify the intensity of your device. For example, for a small, all-white bedroom, which reflects the red light projected on the walls and ceiling, the minimum intensity could be sufficient. We suggest you try them for a few days each; one or the other might fit your environment better.
Keep the button pressed when switching on. After a few seconds, you will see the intensity of the light change. The device has 3 intensity levels which cycle in a loop. Release the button to save your choice.
Understanding Red Light & How It Works
Red-light therapy (also called photobiomodulation / thérapie par lumière rouge) uses low-intensity wavelengths—typically 620-660 nm—to support cellular balance and circadian rhythm. Unlike blue or white light, red light does not suppress melatonin; it gently signals that night has arrived.
Helight® Sleep emits pure 630 nm red light through a 28-minute patented protocol—14 minutes steady light followed by 14 minutes fade-out—to mimic sunset. The sequence activates the body’s natural melatonin rise for deeper, restorative rest.
630 nm sits in the ideal biological range to interact with cytochrome-c oxidase inside mitochondria to help promote calm, rest and recovery. Our researchers determined through meta analysis that this would be the most beneficial to support sleep. It is also one of the most studied wavelengths.
Blue light delays melatonin, keeping you alert. Red light allows melatonin to rise normally—supporting your body’s transition into rest.
Studies show red light does not block melatonin production and can even enhance its natural evening peak. Switching to red light before bed lets melatonin work without interference.
Safety & Usage
Yes. The 630 nm wavelength is visible, non-ionizing, and emits no UV or infrared. Safe for adults, children, and pets when used as directed.
Use it at bedtime, when going to sleep. Let the 28-minute program finish naturally for optimal circadian signaling.
No. Keep your eyes closed; 630 nm light passes through eyelids to reach the retina’s photosensitive cells, initiating the relaxation response.
Absolutely. Pair it with breathing exercises, journaling, or screen-light reduction to create a consistent sleep ritual.
Generally yes, but consult your physician if taking light-sensitizing medications (e.g., certain antibiotics, acne treatments).
Performance, Benefits & Expectations
Many users experience results within the first week. Consistent nightly use for ≈ 21 days helps retrain your circadian rhythm.
Users report faster sleep onset, fewer awakenings, deeper sleep and more refreshed mornings.
Helight® supports your body’s own melatonin production—making synthetic supplements unnecessary for many users.
Yes. Red light helps reset biological rhythms disrupted by travel, night shifts, or hormonal changes.
Science & Validation
The fade-out mimics sunset, allowing the brain’s sleep centers to deactivate gently—no abrupt darkness, no alert rebound.
Most people benefit, though sensitivity varies. Even small improvements indicate your circadian rhythm is realigning.
Funding favors pharmaceuticals, so large-scale trials are still emerging. Awareness is rising as evidence accumulates.
Yes. Research from 2012 to 2024 (Zhao et al.; Figueiro et al.; Duforez & Gronfier; Ancel et al.) demonstrates improved sleep quality, circadian alignment, and reduced sleep inertia.
- Zhao et al., 2012 – Improved sleep & endurance.
- Figueiro et al., 2019 – Reduced sleep inertia.
- Duforez & Gronfier, 2019 – Circadian alignment benefits.
Ancel et al., 2024 – Confirmed melanopsin-based mechanism.
Adaptation takes time. Two months allows your body complete multiple sleep-cycle resets and assess genuine improvement.
Approximately 200 000 people use Helight Sleep with < 10 % returns—real-world results confirming the science. Many have also measured improvements in sleep scores using biometric data collecting devices.
Because it’s simple. Simple solutions often invite skepticism until evidence and experience converge.
Ownership & Support
≈ 25-28 cycles (about two weeks). Recharging takes ≈ 3 hours and can be done while in use.
Full charge is achieved after 3 hours. Important to note that it is not harmful for the battery to leave it plugged in for longer. The device can even operate while being plugged in.
When the device flashes when turned on, it's time to plug it in. It will be functional for another 2 or 3 cycles, but remember to charge it.
2-year manufacturer’s warranty against defects plus a 60-night satisfaction guarantee.
Available across the U.S. and Canada via our website and select partners. Ships from Pensilvania and Ontario (soon from the Netherlands for the European market). Complies with FCC, CA, UKCA and Health Canada standards.
